About the Institution

The UNIVPM science and technology campus is located in Monte Dago and this complex houses the Faculty of Engineering, the Department of Agriculture Food and Environmental Sciences (D3A), and the Department of Life and Environmental Sciences (DiSVA)
The Department of Agricultural, Food and Environmental Sciences (D3A) was established in 2011 by merging a number of units involved in a wide spectrum of fundamental and applied research topics. The D3A carries out scientific researches, university teaching and contract works in different research areas: agronomy, agricultural engineering and landscape, biochemistry, plant biology and forestry, chemical sciences, tree crops, plant genetics, food, industrial and environmental microbiology, agricultural economic systems, physical sciences, food science and technology, soil sciences, animal production and plant protection.
The Botanical Gardens "Selva di Gallignano", the Interdepartmental Centre for Landscape Research (ICLR), the Committee for University Sport (CUS) and the Didactic and Experimental Farm ‘Pasquale Rosati’ belong to the D3A in its present configuration. UNIVPM is part of the Italian Plant Phenotyping Network - PHEN-ITALY Platform.
Teaching activity:
Three-year Degree Course: Food Science and Technology, Agricultural Science, Forest and Environment.
Second Level Master: Land Agricultural Science; Forest, Soil and Landscape Sciences; Food and Beverage Innovation and Management (fully in English).
At the D3A a Course of Research Doctorate in “Agricultural, Food and Environmental Sciences” is active with about 10 new PhD scholarships and two scholarships for foreign student every years.

Prof. Roberto Papa, currently Full Professor in Plant Genetics at the Department for Agricultural, Food and Environmental Sciences (D3A, UNIVPM), Deputy Research Director of D3A. His research focuses on the strategies for conservation and use of genetic diversity and population structure of crop germplasm (mainly Legumes, Cereals), with a main focus on crop domestication; the identification of the genetic basis of phenotypic variation in crops and the development of knowledge and genetic tools for plant breeding. He led the Plant Genetics Research groups of UNIVPM, and currently, he is the coordinator of the ERA-CAPS Project “BEANADAPT-Evolution in a changing environment: the genetic architecture of adaptation outside centers of domestication of P. vulgaris and P. coccineus”. He is Editorial Board member of BMC Genetics, Frontiers in Plant Science, PlosONE scientific journals. He is scientific Reviewer for more than 20 International peer-reviewed journals, including Nature and PNAS. He was member of several national and international grant panels, including ERA-CAPS and European Research Council (ERC) - Advanced Grant (Panel LS8) years from 2011 to 2017.
